ON PEACE.
By a Lady.
[1] Shall joy not put her lute in tune,
To welcome peace, and spring;
Since war, and winter, both are gone;
Who can forbear to sing.
[2] Smiles dimple every patriot face,
And music fills the air:
Come every virtue, science grace,
To Washington repair.
. . . [7 verses, with mention of "song of praise"]
[10] The hero smiles with gracious air,
The band loud paeans sing;
Go Clio bear the notes afar
Upon thy purple wing.
. . . [1 more verse]
